A common occurrence with expired domains is spoofed PageRank. In other words it is possible to fake the page rank of a domain by implementing a 301 or 302 redirect. So, if I redirect mybadpageranksite.com to yahoo.com, then mybadpageranksite.com will take on yahoo.com’s PageRank once it is indexed by Google.

You can check if PageRank has been spoofed on a domain. All you have to do is an info search for the domain in google. If a redirect is happening, the site that is redirected to should appear in the search results and not the actual domain.
